Member Update - Bar

Dear Member

The Management Committee, need to inform all members that Solihull Arden has received a notice from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 & Licencing Act 2003 that a complaint has been received from a local resident whose property is adjoining our campus. The notice informs us that the complaint is regarding loud music and general nuisance late one evening in July. SMBC has placed the Solihull Arden Club on notice that a monitoring exercise will now be carried out to determine whether the noise and nuisance is persistent. At this stage, we do not know who the complainant is and where they live and when SMBC will be monitoring our campus.

We must recognise there is now a risk to our Premises Certificate. This Certificate is issued by SMBC and permits the Solihull Arden club to provide outside Sports and the sale of Alcohol. If SMBC upheld the complaint, our Premises Certificate could be amended or even revoked and we could lose the ability to play any outside sports and operate our Bar.

So, we need to make the following amendments to our current operations to mitigate these risks, until the monitoring by SMBC has been concluded and we have been notified of the outcome.

• Social events that were being considered during September will not go ahead but the Music event in October will be held. We recognise preventing the risk of loud noises is a sensible course of action, especially if we are being monitored. We would like to thank the Social Committee for their efforts on the event that needs to be postponed.

• On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights last orders in the Bar will be 9:45 with the Bar closing at 10:00pm.

The hatch at the rear of the bar will be able to serve soft drinks and hot beverages.

We must reiterate that the Solihull Arden club is a members only Club and members are not permitted to invite non-members as guests for their own function in the Bar.

Forward thanks for your consideration and understanding.

Kind Regards

The Solihull Arden Management Committee
